Gravity Retaining Walls: A gravity retaining wall is the most basic style. It uses the weight of the soil to hold it in place and can be built with a wide range of materials, the most common of which is stone.  This is a great chance for homeowners or property owners to install gorgeous stonework and hardscaping to boost curb appeal.

Cantilevered Retaining Walls:  Installing a cantilevered retaining wall involves digging deep enough in the ground to install a heavy slab that the wall is then attached to using rebar and other supporting materials. This is the strongest structure because of the support mechanism beneath the ground.

Sheet Piling Retaining Walls:  This requires a thin wall of steel, wood, or vinyl that is placed vertically in the ground to reinforce the retaining wall from the front. This style of wall requires soft ground to work correctly.
Anchored Retaining Wall:  The last style that our Washington DC retaining wall builders install is called "anchored".  The process to install the wall is nearly the same as the gravity wall with one exception - the retaining wall is anchored in place using high-tensile cables. Those cables are also anchored using concrete or other methods.  The added support for this style of wall allows for heavier loads and can be used on larger projects when you're doing more than just adding some landscaping to the property.
